Maybe you think you know everything there is to know about Sacramento, but perhaps there’s more to Sacramento than meets the eye. Think you’ve explored every inch of Sacramento? Then you must have been to…
A tiny Filipino bakery in Natomas (there’s also a second location on Mack Road in South Sacramento), Starbread has, well, a star bread in its signature “senorita” bread. It’s a small roll made with bread dough, sugar, sweetened breadcrumbs, and lots of butter. Though simple, they’re highly addictive. For just $8, you can get twenty rolls. Take heed, the bakery has only one oven, so you may have to wait for a fresh batch. Though when it comes to bread, a fresh batch is never to be lamented!
Sand Cove Park Beach
It’s hard to find, but this is a list of hidden gems. Tucked behind an inconspicuous entrance along the Garden Highway, this 10-acre beach along the Sacramento River is a great place to go for those who want to relax, sunbathe, fish, and just have some fun. Parking and admission are free.
Jensen Botanical Garden
Check out this secret garden, which only has a single, small sign along Fair Oaks Boulevard to indicate its existence. Not really a place to go for BBQs or disc golf, this serene garden is more appropriate for introspection and quiet reflection. The 3.5-acre garden includes coastal redwoods, blackberry brambles, magnolias, tulips, day lilies, roses, and many more species of plants.
